VIDEO: LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY 'EDUCATION' & SACRED MUSIC: ANTONIO VIVALDI'S CREDO: 2. ET INCARNATUS EST
American Art Nouveau artist Louis Comfort Tiffany & Co. created the Chittenden Memorial called Education at Yale University from 1889-90.
The stained-glass window portrays an allegory of angels,
each identified by their halos as Art, Science, Religion and Music
surrounded by their ideas, values and virtues,
all learning in peaceful harmony guided by Light, Love and Life.
The 30' panorama begins with Art, Form,
Color and Imagination followed by Perception and Analysis
who join the center panel of Light,
Love and Life guiding Science and Religion in harmony.
The angels personifying Science are Devotion,
Labor, Truth, Research and Intuition.
The virtues representing Religion are Purity, Faith, Hope, Reverence and Inspiration.
Law connects the last panel with
Music, Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Verse and Voice.
Yale alumni Simeon Baldwin Chittenden, a broken father
who lost his daughter Mary Hartwell Lusk at the early age of 32,
funded the Yale library (now known as Linsly-Chittenden Hall)
and commissioned his friend and relative
Tiffany to create Education in her honor.
As a teacher researching inspirations in the glass arts and loving what I do,
I was moved by 'Education' in so many ways. I hope you are inspired too.

VIDEO: WILTON DIPTYCH
Joy to the world!
Here is an extraordinary detail of the Wilton Diptych,
painted in c.1395-9 by an unknown artist for Richard II,
King of England (1377-99).
The full image resembles the Adoration of the Kings.
More at the National Museum in London, UK:
This small, portable altarpiece is one of a handful of English panel paintings
to have survived from the Middle Ages.
Made for Richard II, King of England from 1377 to 1399,
in the last five years of his life, it combines religious and
secular imagery to embody his personal conception of kingship.
On the inside the King is presented to the Virgin and Christ Child by Edmund and Edward the Confessor,
England’s patron saints, and his personal patron, John the Baptist.
Richard holds out his hands to give or receive
the standard with the red and white cross, the arms of Saint George.
Christ raises his hand to bless the standard and with it, Richard’s rule.
Richard’s emblem of a white hart, or stag, is shown on the outside,
and as badges worn by the host of angels.
The King adopted this symbol from his mother,
but it also acted as a visual pun on his name (Richart in French).

Social Media Cover Video, Images, & Logo Credits:
at GALLERY 62 WEST
- ARTWORK 5.1: The video opens with a small illustrated detail of the upper facade of Gallery 62 West. Housed in the former Brinkman Opera House, the three-story Italianate style historic landmark, built c.1900, on 62 West Main Street in Grafton West Virginia, once seated 800 people.
- ARTWORK 5.2: The following traditional letter-mark and word-mark logo for Gallery 62 West was designed to mirror the Italianate architectural features of the historical landmark and follow appropriate guidelines set up by the Historical Landmarks Commission in 1998 to represent the significance of Grafton's place in West Virginia's history.
- ARTWORK 5.3: A fresco detail of The Creation of Adam, 1508-12, on the Sistine Chapel ceiling in Rome by Michelangelo. Painted during the Renaissance ( “Rebirth” in French), it is iconic for the significant period in history that bridged the gap between the Middles Ages and modern history when “intellectual thinking” became manifest in art, architecture, politics, science and literature. The painting detail was a strategic cover and video backdrop for the TCAC logo, symbolizing the "power of art" to "create" a “breath of life” which was a premier vision for establishing an art community in Taylor County along with the scientifically proven health and economic benefits to go with it.
- ARTWORK 5.4: A transparent version of the original, traditional black and white square TCAC logo design for the Taylor County Arts Council. The longevity of a traditional serif typeface was used to compliment the architectural features of the historical region and arts history in the mountain state. The word "ARTS" is the most dominant, immediately recognizable concept and readable word at all sizes, close or far.

- *BRIEF HISTORY of TCAC & GALLERY 62 WEST:
In 1996, (MCMXCVI) Shelly L. Solberg developed, organized and branded
the Taylor County Arts Council (herein referred to as TCAC ).
The inspiring couple, Thea and Blaine Porter joined the TCAC meetings at
the Tygart Lake State Park Lodge and accelerated the momentum.
We began fulfilling a public need for creative expression
by developing the Premier 1997 Memorial Day Juried Fine Arts Exhibit
at the court house in Grafton WV.
For several years TCAC operated under the "umbrella" organization
called the Tygart Valley Development Authority.
A few years later, the non-profit organization was incorporated by Amy Post.
In 2005, following nine years of growth in membership, dedication and perseverance,
TCAC purchased (for a ridiculously nominal fee) "Gallery 62 West"
from another inspiring couple, Lorna Vincent and Sarel Venter.
The gallery, in care of TCAC, is located in the historic landmark known as the “Brinkman Opera House” Today, the gallery continues to be wholly supported by volunteer services, donations, grants, fundraising and membership dues.
